We stood at the airport, watching the planes, huge birds coming and going. At one point, I commented to my husband that it seemed funny those massive things cannot back up alone. They have to be pushed and guided, but once turned around, they become an unstoppable force and they’re free to fly to the beautiful sky above, able to soar and reach their destination.
I pondered that thought and compared it to us humans. Often we want to take off by ourselves, we’re ready for adventure. We think we know the way. Sometimes, God has to say stop, let’s back up and go a different direction. That isn’t always fun or easy. Sometimes we have to sit and wait, as those planes do until God feels we are ready to move.
Slowly, carefully, He begins the process of getting us just where He wants us, knowing all along the places He is guiding us to go. As we allow Him to work, we begin to see the bigger picture and we sit, poised for take-off, waiting for that moment when we can spread our wings to fly, to soar as it were higher than we could have ever imagined. God’s strong arms beneath us guide us safely to our destination.
